Sujet 6 : Mathématiques

Aperçu du programme

Mathematics at Ithraa School is taught as the universal language of precision, pattern, and problem-solving. The curriculum is aligned with internationally benchmarked standards (Cambridge Primary Mathematics, Cambridge Lower and Upper Secondary Mathematics, and IGCSE/A-Level pathway) while being delivered with an awareness of the profound mathematical knowledge embedded in Islamic scholarship and the Quran.

Progression du curriculum

Approche pédagogique

Modèle concret–pictural–abstrait (CPA)

Mathematics instruction at Ithraa School follows the CPA progression — a research-backed approach that begins with physical manipulatives (concrete), moves through visual representations (pictorial), and arrives at formal notation (abstract). This approach, widely used in Singapore Mathematics, ensures deep conceptual understanding rather than surface-level procedural competence.

Apprentissage par problèmes en mathématiques

Students regularly encounter real-world problems that require mathematical modeling: calculating Zakat percentages on different asset types, determining prayer times using trigonometry, analyzing population growth data for Muslim-majority countries, and designing geometrically sound architectural structures inspired by Islamic geometric art.

Esprit mathématique et mentalité de croissance

Ithraa School actively combats the harmful belief that mathematical ability is fixed. Drawing on the research of Professor Jo Boaler and Quranic teachings on effort and perseverance ("Indeed, with hardship will be ease" — Al-Sharh: 5–6), teachers emphasize the value of struggle, the importance of mistakes as learning opportunities, and the limitless potential of every learner.

Mathématiques et patrimoine islamique

Dedicated Mathematical Heritage units introduce students to Al-Khawarizmi (founder of Algebra — the word itself derives from his treatise Al-Kitab al-Mukhtasar fi Hisab al-Jabr), Omar Khayyam (cubic equations), Al-Battani (trigonometry), and Al-Kindi (cryptography and frequency analysis). These units are not mere biography; they require students to solve historical mathematical problems using the methods developed by these scholars, creating an authentic connection to the Islamic intellectual tradition.
