English Language education at Ithraa School is designed to produce confident, articulate communicators who can engage effectively in the global academic and professional arena. The program follows international standards aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), targeting B2 proficiency by Grade 9 and C1 by Grade 12, while maintaining an Islamic values context in all learning materials and examples.

The foundation years employ a systematic phonics approach (Jolly Phonics and Letters and Sounds methodology) to build decoding skills rapidly and securely. Alongside phonics, early literacy lessons develop listening comprehension, oral vocabulary, and a love of reading through carefully curated Islamic and universal children's literature.

Students engage with a broad range of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and informational texts. Reading instruction progresses from literal comprehension to inferential and evaluative thinking. By Grade 6, students are analyzing authorial technique, identifying bias, and constructing evidence-based arguments. Texts are selected to represent diverse voices while maintaining Islamic ethical standards.

The writing program teaches students to master multiple genres: narrative, descriptive, expository, persuasive, and analytical writing. Students learn the writing process — planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing — and develop a distinctive authorial voice. Grammar and mechanics are taught in context, embedded in the writing workshop rather than isolated as drill exercises.

Public speaking, structured academic controversy, and formal debate are central to Ithraa School's English program. Students participate in in-class presentations, school debate competitions, and Model United Nations (MUN) simulations. This dimension of the program builds confidence, argumentation skills, and the ability to engage respectfully with competing viewpoints.

English lessons at Ithraa School consciously connect language learning to Islamic values. Persuasive writing units tackle contemporary ethical issues (environmental stewardship, community responsibility, social justice) from an Islamic perspective. Literature discussions invite students to evaluate characters' choices against Islamic moral frameworks, building both literary appreciation and ethical reasoning simultaneously.
