Online Science for Muslim Students

Comprehensive Curriculum & Student Growth Framework

Subject 5: Sciences

"سَنُرِيهِمْ آيَاتِنَا فِي الْآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِمْ"

"We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves." (Fussilat: 53)

Program Philosophy

Science at Ithraa School is taught as an act of Tafakkur — deep, purposeful reflection on the signs (Ayat) of Allah in the natural world. The curriculum aligns with the Cambridge International Science framework while embedding consistent Quranic and Hadith references that demonstrate Islam's celebration of scientific inquiry. Students are taught that every scientific discovery is, at its core, the uncovering of another dimension of Allah's magnificent creation.

Science Disciplines by Stage

Primary Science (G1–G5): Integrated Inquiry Science

In the primary years, Science is taught as an integrated discipline covering life sciences, physical sciences, and earth sciences through hands-on inquiry. Students conduct simple experiments, make observations, record data, and draw conclusions — developing scientific habits of mind from an early age. Lessons regularly reference the natural world described in the Quran: the water cycle, plant growth, the human body, celestial bodies, and geological phenomena.

Lower Secondary Science (G6–G8): Integrated Science with Specialization Introduction

At this stage, the three main science disciplines — Biology, Chemistry, and Physics — are introduced in a coordinated way. Students develop laboratory skills, learn to write formal scientific reports, and engage in real-world problem-solving projects such as designing clean water filtration systems, studying local ecosystems, and investigating the chemistry of everyday foods.

Upper Secondary Sciences (G9–G12): Specialized Disciplines

In Grades 9–12, students choose their science pathway according to their academic goals and interests, with dedicated courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics aligned to IGCSE and A-Level Cambridge standards. Each discipline includes:

  • Biology: Cell biology, genetics, ecology, human physiology, evolution discussions with Islamic perspective
  • Chemistry: Atomic structure, bonding, reactions, organic chemistry, environmental chemistry (Green Chemistry focus)
  • Physics: Mechanics, waves, electricity, magnetism, nuclear physics, cosmology (with Islamic cosmological reflection)

STEM Integration & Innovation

Ithraa School runs a dedicated STEM Innovation Lab where students pursue interdisciplinary projects connecting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Annual Science Fairs, Robotics Competitions, and Environmental Action Projects provide authentic contexts for applying scientific knowledge. Special attention is paid to Islamic contributions to science, with dedicated units on the Golden Age of Islamic Science featuring scholars such as Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Al-Khawarizmi, Al-Biruni, Ibn al-Haytham, and Al-Zahrawi.
